Who we serve · Education

Education runs on more than what happens in the classroom.

SumnerOne is the print, communication, and technology partner for K-12 districts, community colleges, and universities across the Midwest. We keep learning materials ready, communication moving, information secure, and costs easier to explain.

The teaching and the learning belong to your people. The systems underneath, the materials, the communication, the records, the cost, either serve that work or quietly take time away from it. Our job is to make sure they serve it.

Most schools and campuses run hybrid digital and print environments, not one or the other. The question is what each format does best. SumnerOne helps education institutions keep materials ready for the lesson, reach families and communities in a form they will notice, protect sensitive records, and explain what print costs and why. We start by listening, assess the real environment, recommend what fits, and stay accountable as the institution changes. We have been doing this work in education for decades.

Why education is our heart

The work belongs to teachers and students. The systems belong to us.

Materials, communication, records, and cost either serve the work of learning or steal time from it. We exist to make sure they serve it.

Education has been SumnerOne's strongest partnership for a long time, because the work is not abstract to us. A packet that is not ready by Thursday morning is a lesson interrupted. A parent letter no one sees is a family left out. A records request no one can answer is a risk no one chose.

We do not teach the class or keep the faculty. That belongs to your people. What we can do is take the logistics off their desks, so their time, attention, and budget go to students instead of to the copier.

The format matters, and the research is consistent.

A 2018 meta-analysis of reading studies, together covering more than 171,000 readers, found that comprehension of longer and more complex material was stronger on paper than on screen. Print is not nostalgia in a school. It is part of how students learn. Getting the format right is the part we can help with.

Where we help

Two of these are the reason we show up.

We describe each in plain language first, then give it the name we use for it. Each card also names its coalition, the people who should be in the room. Start with the two closest to the classroom.

Where we help

And two that keep the institution running.

The operational tier. Less about the lesson itself, just as easy to feel when it breaks.

For print operations leaders

Run your own campus or district print shop?

A different conversation, and we treat it as one.

Some of the institutions we serve do not need a vendor. They run their own shop, and what they need is a partner who can help them prove its value to the people who set budgets. Whether you are consolidating production across campuses, planning for a retirement in the shop, or building the case that your in-plant is an asset and not a cost, we help you get there without taking the operation out of your hands.

The In-Plant Outcomes Program is how that work gets done, self-guided, with us alongside it. If you would rather start with the wider picture of how education in-plants make their value visible, the overview is a good first read.

What a good partner brings

We listen first, and our own people do the work.

A district does not work like a campus, and a community college does not work like an independent school. Before we recommend anything, we learn how yours actually runs: where materials move, where delays happen, which devices matter most, and what your team needs to explain to leadership.

Then our own employees do the work. Discovery, installation, configuration, and support come from SumnerOne people, not an unknown third party. That is the difference you feel in year two, not just week one.

SumnerOne's approach

Listen first. Assess the real environment. Recommend based on fit. Configure and support what matters. Stay accountable as the institution changes.

50%
Color print cost reduction
My Father's World
A Missouri-based homeschool curriculum publisher reduced color printing costs by 50 percent while increasing the number of color pages in its curriculum after moving to a Kyocera TASKalfa Pro 15000c. A stronger production path for higher-quality learning materials and healthier margins.
Higher ed · St. Louis Community College
Multi-campus
Consolidated production
St. Louis Community College
A multi-campus community college that brought production together into a system its own team could run, with the visibility to show leadership what the operation delivers and what it saves. In-plant capability, made defensible.

These are real customers in environments we serve every day. The metrics are the ones we measure ourselves against.

A diagnostic checklist

What should schools ask before choosing a print or technology partner?

These move the conversation from equipment to accountability. The right partner should be comfortable answering all of them.

1
How will you learn how our school, district, or campus actually works before recommending changes?
The answer should describe a discovery process, not a product demo.
2
Can you show us the full cost of print by building, campus, department, or function?
If they cannot show it, they cannot help you defend it.
3
Who owns security configuration after devices are installed?
"It's on the device" is not the same as "it's configured correctly."
4
Can you support classroom, administrative, admissions, advancement, athletics, and in-plant needs without treating them as the same use case?
Education is not a single workflow. The partner should know that.
5
What happens if our needs change during the agreement?
Enrollment, leadership, and budget shift. The agreement should accommodate that.
6
Will your recommendations be based on our environment or on the product you prefer to sell?
The honest answer should be the easy one.

Start the conversation

Start with what your school depends on.

Every SumnerOne engagement begins with listening. We will learn how your people work, where friction shows up, what materials and communications matter most, which systems need support, and what your print, scan, communication, and technology environment needs to carry.

No pressure. No generic pitch. Just a clearer picture of what is working, what needs attention, and what a better-fit relationship could look like.
